U2 playing O2?

A rumour surfaces in the press
Irish rockers U2 could be the latest band to take over the huge London arena, if new reports are to be believed.

A number of unconfirmed reports suggest Bono and co are planning to follow Prince and Bon Jovi in staging an extended residency at the O2 in East London in 2008, which is likely to come as part of a major world tour.

Sources claim the band would play a total of 21 nights at the former Millennium Dome in Greenwich.

The band have been working through much of 2007 on their new album, the follow up to 2004's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb". Sessions in New York, Ireland and Morocco are thought to be nearing completion, with a summer 2008 release looking likely.

U2 re-release their legendary 1987 album "The Joshua Tree" early next month, which marks the album's 20th anniversary and features a host of extras and rarities.
